Florida Ranks Second in the U.S. for the Number of Aerospace and Aviation Companies

According to Space Florida, over 17,144 aerospace-related companies are based in Florida, contributing more than $19 billion in revenue to the state’s economy.

Industry giants in aerospace and aviation are choosing to invest in Florida leading to numerous career opportunities. Driven by aerospace, aviation, pharmaceuticals, machinery manufacturing and research and development, the significant job growth in the region produces the largest share of STEM-related jobs in the entire state. Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that employment of aerospace engineers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2023 to 2033, faster than the average for all occupations. This career path offers a wealth of opportunity.

The Need for Aerospace Workers Continues to Grow

The aerospace and defense sector remains the cornerstone of Brevard County’s economy. Major players like SpaceX, Boeing and Lockheed Martin have established significant operations in the area, creating thousands of high-quality jobs. As the demand for satellite launches and human spaceflight increases, Brevard County is poised for further growth. There has also been a surge in technology and innovation businesses with incubators and collaborative efforts fostering startups.

According to Florida Trend, growth is booming in Volusia and Flagler Counties as well. Boeing and Embry Riddle announced a partnership earlier this year that will bring 400-high paying jobs to Volusia County in defense, space and security aircraft programs. Plus, Aura Aero plans to open it’s first U.S. manufacturing and assembly facility in Volusia’s Research Park. Astor Defence, a global leader in military packaging solutions, has chosen Palm Coast as the site of its first U.S. manufacturing, production and testing facility.

With this growth, corporations are also facing worker shortages to fill these positions. CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia is actively working to create training opportunities and collaborate with employers to address regional workforce challenges.
